The Top 3 Reasons Highly Successful People Meditate

 In Meditation, Mindfulness, Running, Wellness, Yoga

What do you envision when you hear the word meditation?

If you currently have a meditation practice - that’s an interesting question in itself.

But honestly, most people imagine some culty-hipster sitting in the lotus position on a mountain top chanting ancient mantras, “there’s no freakin’ way I can do that, sorry.”

I’m here to tell you that you can! All I need from you is 5 minutes.

And you don’t have to sit on a mountain top for hours on end to reach inner-peace.

Meditation is a deep, healing practice that can take a lifetime to fully explain and comprehend, but in the sake of time, I’ll sum it up in 3 bullet points.

Before I dive in though - let me emphasize how important the effects are throughout your day, NOT just when you’re actually sitting in silence. Meditation benefits permeate every hour of your day, even though you only sit and enjoy for 15 or so minutes.

ONE -> Clarity is Priceless

Do you have ongoing chatter and thoughts running in your head? These aren’t necessarily intolerable or negative thoughts - they can simply be distracting from whatever moment you’re in.

You’re not alone.

Many meditators refer to this chatter as “the monkey mind,” the thoughts rapidly jump from one to another the way a monkey jumps from tree branch to tree branch.

This isn’t a fault in any way - it’s human nature to be highly aware, deriving from our innate need for safety. It’s instinctual, just like a jungle cat is hyper-aware.

Meditation helps calm and eventually stop the monkey mind.

When that noise in your head is silenced, not only do you experience peace, but you have clarity (that’s when you have those “Aha!” moments).  Have you ever had a great idea in the shower? It’s a similar state of space.

Imagine having that clarity throughout the day.

It’s only in silence and peace that we have insight and are able to hear our intuition.

TWO -> Stress Reduction

There’s a profound quote that comes to mind for me, “Choose meditation, not medication.” It’s shocking and somewhat disturbing how many people use pills to find peace.

Whether or not you’re willing to admit it, medication is a temporary, surface fix for some type of deeper issue. It’s even said that American doctors are going to begin prescribing fitness, mental health and diet plans instead of medication in the future. Patients will need to meet certain healthy standards before they can qualify for medication.

What’s so powerful about meditation is that it deals with the subconscious mind, the part of us that blindly reacts to things like undesirable and desirable feelings.

When we react to these negative sensations, we create more suffering in our reality because we’re either having aversion to negative feelings or we are craving the pleasant feelings.

Meditation makes you aware of your blind reactions, through observation of the breath and bodily sensations. Once you become aware of your reactions, they are no longer blind and you can then control how you react.

That my friends is inner peace, and is the most effective way of reducing stress (right at the roots in the subconscious mind).

THREE -> Success

How many times have you read or heard quotes like, “there are dreamers, and there are doers,” or “vision without action is only a dream?”

Well, I’m going to let you in on a secret: meditation is the key to turning your vision of a successful life into your reality. By meditating you not only realize the past no longer exists, and the future is only a figment of your imagination, but you actually experience it.

This is precisely what people are referring to when they say “visualize” your future of wealth and health.

In order to turn your vision into a manifested reality, you need to focus on the present - the only true moment that exists at any given time. If you focus on the present, you are on the fast-track to making your idea of success your reality.

Meditation helps you focus and hone in on the present so you can use it to its fullest potential.

Now go to your quiet place, and get your mental fitness going! Only you can liberate yourself from the shackles of anxiety.

Being techy-nerds, of course we have an app for that. Our favorite meditation apps are:
